We are great fans of ephemera produced by artists; books, posters, cds, catalolgs, we love the stuff. We make available items produced elsewhere that can be hard to find as well as items created for events held at the gallery. All prices include shipping within the United States. We'll be happy to send items out of the country - contact us and we'll figure out the additional cost.

The Orange - poems by Todd Young, images by Rupert Deese

The Orange is a book of poems and images released in a signed and numbered edition of 50. The poems are by Todd Young of Cayucos, California and the images are by Rupert Deese of New York City.

The book is 24 pages long (including end pages) and the three different images were woodblock printed by Jonathan Higgins at Manneken Press. The text was letterpress printed by Denker Press in November 2006. The printed orange images are much more saturated than our digital camera and computer image processing will allow us to represent. They are lovely. The dimensions of the book is approximately 5" x 7". We'll send you the lowest numbered edition we have available when you order.

Young's poems have a calm and direct voice that set scenes directly with a no gussying up and a bit of timing and arrangement for direction. Here is a poem from the book:

This is the window, and that is the view.

Well, let's just go see
"The Spanish Prisoner"
again, we agreed. In
those ridiculous, cool
Summer evenings we
bent each entertainment
assiduously to our whim.

Or was it Winter? It was
always a Saturday:
that much I remember.
It was frozen, the descent
in both directions, balcony
looking over the ferry parking
lot. Everything was ice.

We all toasted to the future all
night, kissed, and said goodbye.
