Lisa Anne Auerbach - "Auerbachtoberfest"
20 October - 17 November 2007

Los Angeles based artist Lisa Anne Auerbach presented woolen pieces (sweater/skirt sets, window banners, a "zip" and an edition of 50 drain cover kozies) along with seven photographs of unicycles - from the full series of 19, in an edition of 4. The actual unicycles themselves had been originally collected and rented for ten cents/hour as part of Auerbach's Unicycle Shop project that was part of a High Desert Test Site exhibition. This Unicycle Shop project was documented in a book published by onestar press. Please note: the banners that are sewn to the window grating in the images below would typically (i.e., during business hours) be facing out towards the street. The slogans on the banners would, from outside the space, read "Things Can Only Get Better" (angled down to up on the left) and then "Things Can Only Get Worse" (angeled up to down on the right), their angles meeting symbolically over the doorway into the space.
